Book of Nehemiah

Lesson Plan for Church Leaders, Training for Service

Prepared by Prophetess Meka

Nehemiah Background

Nehemiah was a cupbearer to the Persian King Artaxerxes. He held a high position and his duties included; advising the king, being a bodyguard to the king, and tasting the king’s food to ensure it was not poisoned. The story of Nehemiah takes place during third return of excited from Babylon to Jerusalem. The theme of Nehemiah is leadership. We are studying this book as inspired by the Holy Spirit to do so as we train for the tasks before us.

Chapter One Nehemiah

  1. Nehemiah's question, verse two, “Who survived the captivity”? We want to take the time and look at this question and make it personal. What have you served in your own life? In order to effectively get a message across we must be relatable. We want to Minister to the heart of the people that will aide them in changing their minds.

  2. In verse 3, we see the answer of the question in which Nehemiah asked. The survives are in distress and reproach, and the walls of the city are broken down and the gates have been burned. On our last study we focused on the condition. I asked you to take a look at your heart and your soul and assess your condition. Now I ask you to see the condition of those around you. Those who are hurting and in need of God. In order to effectively deliver a message you must see the needs of the people.

  3. In verse 4, We now see Nehemiah's response, he was moved to tears at the condition of the people and the city, and He sought God through fasting and praying. In order to effectively deliver a message you must have compassion and love. The main key in all of this is prayer. Prayer is communication with God through Jesus. In any relationship in or for it to survive you must spend time together and you must communicate. It is no different with God. We live in a day and time when communion with God is vital and must be the foundation of every move we make in our day to day lives.

Nehemiah's Prayer (Verses 5-11)

  1. Attitude of Worship and Reverence to God.

  2. Intercessory Prayer and Repentance.

  3. Confession, Praying Gods word, Making your request, and Attitude of gratitude.

Intercessory Prayer

  1. Let's follow Nehemiah guidelines as we pray for the souls God has placed in our care as well as praying for each other.

  2. We must have a consistent prayer life, it is very important. Remember this saying, “Much prayer, Much power, little prayer, little power”.

Revelation and Application

God revealed and God applied

  1. It is so important as we read and study the word personally or when writing a sermon that we get revelation. Think of revelation as What God has revealed within the scripture.

  2. The next key component is Application, Applying the word to our everyday life, or we can think of it as How God wants us to apply the word or carry out what we have learned.

ACTIVITY

Take time to read Nehemiah Chapter One once more.

As you reread chapter one, what do you see, write down your revelation and application.

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND GRACE YOU!
